Who doesn’t want to eat well from the garden all year long? A thorough introduction to garden planning basics will get you thinking about how many days your plants are in the ground, and what comes in next. You’ll learn how to take advantage of seasonal windows, and what varieties work best in our climate. You’ll soon be talking crop planning like a pro!

Many of the pollinator all-stars will be out in full bloom in our restored meadow at Sea Bluff Farm and in our hedgerows. We’ll walk around and learn their names and roles in the ecosystem. We’ll cover the basics in planning your site for a long season of flowers and sustenance for native species in all types of habitats. We’ll also talk about the best places to find these beauties in our local parks and how to care for them along the sides of the trails.

Is there anything better than a homegrown tomato, fresh from your vine? We think not. Come learn about everything tomato. We’ll cover what varieties to chose, how to pick your site, how much to water and feed, methods of support and much more. We’ll show you how to prune with our tomatoes in the greenhouse. Learn about common tomato pests and problems and what to do about them. Get ready for an abundant tomato season!

Imbalances in soil health can lead to many preventable problems. Have you ever had giant carrot tops and no bottoms? Veggies that got stunted or that didn’t taste good? Or have had outbreak after outbreak of pests? These common problems can be solved with a little understanding of soil and what plants need to thrive. N-P-K is just the beginning. We’ll cover aeration, drainage and making good compost. Get ready for burgeoning success!

There has been a lot of creative advances in container growing in the last few years.  With a few basics, you can let your imagination run wild.  Thrillers, fillers and spillers are just the beginning.  Learn how to create drainage, maintain fertility and grow beautiful plants that can feed you for months, even all year round!

With a little planning and creativity, your yard can become an important habitat for native plants and pollinators. Not only are they gorgeous, drought tolerant and frost hardy, native plants need places to thrive and people to care for them.  This workshop will cover the basics on what you need to start, what kinds of plants are suited to your conditions and where to sustainably source seeds and starter plants. You’ll also learn how to create habitat for butterflies and ground beetles in amongst your plants.
